Makeup Makeup and More Makeup!

Wow! It's been some time, and I'm actually feeling relieved to be back and posting again. A happy past time, and hopefully the future has not dulled due to my absence!

I have so many new looks to share, and I am thrilled that this is what I'm returning with to show you first!

This young lady was in a film with the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lavato. This was an emergency portfolio update done by photographer David Haskell, so she could rush off to California in order to go up against Rihanna for a movie based on Whitney Houston.

Poison.

I feel like my life has been full of poison the last little while. Nothing seemed to be going right in many aspects of it. Last night, I walked into my studio to find the ceiling collapse on the ground, water just missing all the hard drives and computers by a centimeter. The dry wall along two walls need to be replaced, along wit all of the beautiful artwork and pphotography hanging on them. Our closet full of equipment is now full of soaked and damaged boxes, photos, backdrops.. Mostly covered in mold now.
Today I plan to go in there and suck all of the poison out like a leech. Wish me luck.

Sugar Skulls

Two sugar skull creations I created on Halloween 2013, are a great example of the many uses of eyeshadow (and eyeliner). I have the most fun when I'm doing the most outrageous looks.

Make Up Brushes

These two kits, together make one heck of a travel kit (at a great price)! I have used many different brush brands, and they can cost a pretty penny or two! Elegant Faces and Quo, are definitely among my favorite brands but cost no less than ten dollars a piece. As a working makeup artist, it is less than professional to only have one set, I have four! A full set of brushes is usually, minimally, 12 pieces. You do the math! Outrageous!

So enough of that! The brand E.L.F. (eyes lips face) has great prices on brush sets. Purchasing them online is always cheaper (even with the more expensive brands), shipping charges, can make all the difference.
However even in stores you can find E.L.F. brushes, or the full sets for much cheaper.

An online E.L.F. brush-set sale looks like this!

Pastel Swatches

Spring is here, and these pastels are perfect and inspiring creations in my mind! I am not the biggest fan of blue but these teals/azures are beautiful beside my favorite colour purple! These are more lavender/lilac shades. However both colors really remind you of spring, and easter.

My Go To Look

I am not one to stick to the norm, or to even try being "normal" and fit in. It's not my style. I like to have such a look that in inspires thought in others. 'how did she do that?' 'that looks really cool!'. Even if they're thinking 'what the hell has she got on her face?'.. I'm glad I stand out, I'm glad I make you think. My 'go to' look though, is the most "normal" or natural as I get.
I posted this photo on my Facebook and received such a wonderful compliment from someone I look up to, and happens to be one of the most gorgeous females I've ever met. It blew my mind that someone so determined, goal oriented, intelligent and beautiful could comment 'perfection'. So I want to share the look, and the exact photo I posted.

Look: Doll Eyes

To create the look of a bigger eye, use white eyeliner on the lower waterline, and outline the bottom with the same white eyeliner. Then use your favorite black liquid liner and create your new "waterline" definition. Add sham (bottom) lashes and glue them to your newly defined eye, (black liner). Having trouble following what I'm saying? I'm having just as hard of a time trying to explain. So here's a picture

Look: Eyeliner

Just a little fun with eyeliners, and pure pigment shadows. Not my steadiest handwork with the lower black liner, but I enjoyed the look.

Eyeshadow: Many purposes.

So here is a quick view of what eyeshadow and blending can do! It doesn't have to stay on your eyes, bring it to your lips, cheeks and even brows! Don't be afraid to create!

Eyeshadow Tips: Blending

Blending is an essential, especially when trying to achieve the smoky eye look. Most do not know that once the eyeshadow is applied you are to blend with a clean (crease) brush. If you use the brush used to apply the eyeshadow it continues to add color. Even though it is still blending, a little, it does not give the same result. If blending with a clean brush takes away from your color, add more eyeshadow and blend again (using the clean brush). It's a cleaner, smokier and much nicer look.

Step one: apply base coat of eyeshadow covering from lashline to brow using a highlighting shade.

Step two: cover just the lid with desired color.

Step three: add a darker shade of color or black (the preference is yours to choose).

Step four: blend crease with a clean brush.

Step five: apply desired eyeliner design, and add mascara.

Makeup Tip: Fixing Broken Eyeshadow/Powder

I know I'm not the only one who absolutely hates breaking eyeshadows. Have you ever dropped and eyeshadow and it just shatters in the case, making a huge mess? Don't get angry, don't throw it out and spend more money on a new one.
Add a few drops of rubbing alcohol (yes), and pat down with your finger to bring it all back together. Then leave open to let dry, depending on how much rubbing alcohol is used it may take about an hour to dry completely. This trick also works on powder foundations, matte or shimmer, bronzer, or blush. Remember to let it dry out first before using it, or the rubbing alcohol may irritate the skin around the eyes.

So next time your break an eyeshadow or powder foundation don't live with the mess! There is something you can do about it without replacing it!

Snow Day: Gloom to Beauty

Today was treacherous, the weather was awful the roads were worse and I was 3 hours late for work. A foot of snow or more; take me some place warm already! I'm a Canadian, I'll get over it, (when the summer comes).
Through all the day's crazes and mix ups, I found some beauty while waiting for my cab. I wanted to share something beautiful that came from something gloomy.

Reveal Your Beautiful Skin

We need to remember, as makeup wearing people, we absolutely must keep our skin clean, and moisturized. Our face alone has over 20,000 pores, and in those pores and all over your face, live lice like microscopic bugs. That's 20,000 dirt and bug traps! Wearing makeup increases the dirt and bacteria. Obviously. However most forget or are just too lazy to wash their face before applying makeup, and or at the end of your day. Hopefully this new information will gross you out enough to make you want to wash your face more!

Keep that skin clean and beautiful people!

Skin 'Beautifiers' : My Two Favorite Natural Products

Having trouble with your skin ladies? (or gents). I have two favorite products I love using on my skin, and they are both NATURAL!!

1) Tea Tree Oil (100% pure). It helps bring out and kill infection which is great for those stubborn ingrown hairs and unsightly pimples we all love so much.
2) Witch Hazel. It is great for healing bruises and insect bites, but did you know it tones and cleanses the skin as well? It helps reduce redness, (on my skin I find it complete rids of the redness). So, naturally, it's helpful for those pimples and ingrown hairs as well as it reduces the inflammation (and redness).

Don't be afraid to lather it over your skin! For those of you who have never encountered these products you haven't been missing out on the smells (which fade over 20 minutes time), you HAVE been missing out on the beautiful skin it reveals!
